Rhabdomyolysis  is a condition that you never want to have or even come close to! This is where damaged skeletal muscle tissue breaks down and releases dangerous toxins into your blood. It can be caused by a crushing injury, drug abuse, infections, medications. Strenuous and prolonged exercise, such as cross fit and marathons, can also cause this life threatening condition.

When rhabdomyolysis occurs, myoglobin is released as your muscle tissue breaks down . Myoglobin is the primary carrier of oxygen in your muscles The early complications resulting from myoglobin’s release include high levels of potassium in your blood which can lead to an irregular heart beat or  heart attack. Research shows that 1 out of 4 cases develop liver problems and 15% lead to kidney failure.  Some of the symptoms are confusion, vomiting, dark urine and muscle swelling.
