Did you know That Weight Gain can lead to Low Back Pain?

Aches and pains in the low back may very often be aggravated and caused by obesity. Most of the time this occurs for people with extra weight in their mid section. This happens because the access weight  pulls the pelvis forward and strains the lower back. According to the American Obesity Association, people who are obese or have a large waist are particularly at risk for lower back pain.

Obese or overweight people may experience sciatica and low back pain from a herniated disc . This happens when discs and other spinal structures are damaged from having to compensate for the pressure of extra weight on the back.  Another problem that may occur is pinched nerves and piriformis syndrome which is a result of extra weight pushing between the bones in the low back area.

Arthritis of the spine that causes back pain may be aggravated when extra body weight strains the joints.The people with Body Mass Index (BMI) of greater of 25 are more likely to develop osteoarthritis then those with a lower BMI. The American Obesity Association recommends modest weight loss as a treatment for some types of osteoarthritis.
